Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities
This year's International Day of Persons with Disabilities falls just a week before the  60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  The United Nations is commemorating both under the theme, "Dignity and justice for all of us". This International Day for Persons with Disabilities is a time to make a renewed commitment to these principles of dignity and justice and to ensure implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. All human beings are not only entitled to rights, but also have the responsibility of making universal human rights a reality for all of us.

Honouring 60 Years of United Nations Peacekeeping

UN peacekeeping has been developed to help countries torn by conflict create conditions for lasting peace since the first mission was established in May 1948. There have been a total of 63 UN peacekeeping operations. Currently, more than 100,000 military and civilian personnel serve in 20 UN peace operations worldwide.
