M.U.N.

globe.gifModel United Nations (M.U.N.s) are student conferences around the world and aim at familiarizing participants with the procedure within the U.N. as well as other organisations, such as the European Union, the N.A.T.O. etc.

The history of M.U.N.s dates back to 1930s, when the first conferences of this kind were organized under the auspices of the League of Nations. The institution further flourished in the years right after WWII, since the newly founded United Nations Organisation regarded M.U.N.s as an ideal intrument to bring people close to the spirit and principles of the new Organisation. Reputation of Model United Nations is boosted in mid 1970s; since then, the conferences have been gaining in academic credibility and are highly regarded by educational institutions and professionals worldwide, while an ever growing number of Universities or other academic bodies host M.U.N. conferences each year.

Today, there are more than 250 M.U.N. conferences in more than 125 countries around the world. All these conferences are supervised by the American Youth Association for the United Nations (http://www.unausa.org)

The Greek M.U.N. has been annually organised since 2002 by the University of Macedonia attracting participants from all Law Schools, International Relations and Political Studies departments of all Greek Universities, as well as delegates from abroad. (http://www.uom.gr/mun)
